West Tank and Pump Station
City of Modesto, California
The West Tank Pump Station and associated transmission mains are part of the improvements required to fully integrate expansion of the City’s treated surface water system with the City’s potable water distribution system. West Yost provided design for construction of a 4 MG welded steel water storage tank, 2 miles of water mains, and a booster pump station with a rated capacity of 12 million gpd. The booster pump station consists of four 150-hp split-case centrifugal pumps, chemical feed, standby power, and electrical controls, housed in a single-story, masonry building.
The project is located in a semi-rural location with residential homes nearby. The Project Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Plan required that aesthetic recommendations be considered to minimize the visual impact of the tank and pump station. To reduce the visual impact of the site, the tank height was reduced to 27 feet and a variety of tall deciduous trees will be planted along the south and west fence lines with an attractive wrought iron fence around the entire site. Low profile natural earth tone paint colors will be used for the tank and pump station. The pump station building was constructed of simple and attractive split face masonry and stucco and includes noise reduction measures.
