West Yost is designing over 14,000 feet of force main and gravity sewers to provide relief to the existing sewer system that is currently experiencing flows above what was originally designed. West Yost is also designing a replacement lift station. West Yost has been working on this project since the project development/predesign phase and will provide bid support and construction support services.
West Yost is designing upgrades to an existing pump station, PS016, that will more than double its capacity. To minimize disruptions to the public, the original pumps in both PS016 and nearby PS015 will remain in continuous service until the upgraded station is complete, at which point all flows from the old PS016 and PS015 pumps will be diverted to the upsized PS016. Then all existing pumps will be removed and the PS015 lift station will be decommissioned. Because the old equipment will not be removed until after the new equipment is operational, there are important implications for construction sequencing and design: the small site will be even smaller.

“I look forward most in my work to the unknown on a daily basis. The work and change can range from helping with water projects, sewer projects, rehabilitations, cost estimating, project management. The biggest thing I get excited about is being able to work on something new every day and with a support team around me in the event that I have any questions that need answering, it leaves the door open for learning new things!
My biggest accomplishment was the design package together for the large scale Hayward recycled water project, I was able to go through the design, provide a high quality work product, and I a have billed over 2,000 hours to that project. We ended it on time, it had 85 design sheets and was a very large package. It was very well received. It gave the city the ability to get recycled water to new customers on a large scale, and I’m proud of that.”

“I get most excited at work by the challenge of learning new things every day, for instance how to size and select a pump, or set up hydraulic modeling in a spreadsheet. Knowledge transfer is a lot of what we do at West Yost. I am five years into my career and I appreciate that I am given the opportunity to learn new things. I feel encouraged and supported by everyone in the firm to spend time learning new skills.
I am very proud of earning my PE and getting licensed. West Yost paid for the testing fees and test taking time. It was an invaluable step for me that I am very happy to have accomplished. Following that, signing and stamping my first project a year ago, the Newcastle Road Stormwater Pump Station, in the City of Stockton, was amazing! It felt great to be valued enough to take ownership over it and see building begin.”
